Our mission is to create a global community of best standards of practice for Digital Asset Management.
We will provide the professional society which acknowledges, matures and develops the growth of DAM.
We will provide the best qualified advice and guidance for best practice and standards within the Digital Asset Management space.
We have created a board membership whereby David Lipsey has kindly agreed to be our first President and will be driving the endeavours of the DAM Foundation Board.
Our inaugural meeting was held in LA at the Createasphere conference in March 2011 and was attended by a virtual who’s who of the industry. In addition to consultants and vendors we had some of the large studios attend, including Paramount and Universal, plus a number of Corporate companies including Sony, UPS and Adobe. Vendors in attendance included Adam, Autonomy, MediaBeacon and Widen. We also had educationalists and in-depth experts from, for example, the taxonomy/metadata community.
This message from an attendee quantifies our mission:
“We’ve all arrived at the DAM space through a variety of career choices or serendipity, and it’s this dynamic that I hope will make our contributions to the DAM community all the more meaningful”
~Jane Glicksman Digital Archivist at Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Margaret Herrick Library
All in all a very good start, in fact – excellent. We have also had an offer to take and place interns into the DAM community with education being of primary concern in our initial phase of development.
Currently we are looking at the organizational structure and incorporation (likely to be within the USA) of the Foundation. David has secured a meeting space at Henry Stewart Events, Createasphere, NAB and DCM - this forms part of our ongoing engagement strategy.
We are currently putting together a social application website that will facilitate the knowledge transfer for all the sub-groups and committees. We hope to launch this within the next month. From there we will conduct our activities and report our findings, keeping the LinkedIn group ‘Dam Foundation’ as the hub for sharing with the wider community.
If you or your company wish to get involved, please take a look at our membership packages or alternatively fill in the form below
